The Cederberg
June 2015
Just a few hours out of Cape Town lies the Cederberg, a wild area with beautiful mountains and endless dirt roads. Tom, Zoe and I took the weekend to explore this part of the world, with only one big mishap!
Uitkyk Pass and the open winding roads of the Cederberg Mountains
Wupperthal, a quaint hamlet nestled in the north of the Cederberg wilderness area
Winter rain had made the Doring River impassable. Luckily, we found a raft on the riverbank with just enough buoyancy to take the bikes across
Bikes safe and dry!
A rouge rock cracks the sump of my bike, emptying all 2 litres of oil onto the dirt. The risk of riding without a sump guard ends the motorcycling journey here
With the BMW out of action we set up camp under a starry sky
Tom heads into the sunrise in search of some help
We weren't the only ones out of water.
Tom returned with Hendrick, a friendly neighbourhood mechanic
The BMW was packed onto the back of the truck and taken to Calvinia where we managed to get a quick patch up before riding the home stretch the following day
