The Old Postal Route
March 2018
The Old Postal Route is an old mountain road that connects the Biedouw Valley in the Cederberg with the Eilandsvlei farm in the Tankwa Karoo. Back in the day, this was a route used to deliver supplies between the two remote communities. We headed up to the Cederberg for a long weekend on the bikes to explore this old part of the mountains.
Zoë and Simon.
The old town of Wuppertal.
The Doring river, a slightly easier crossing this time. The last time we passed through here it was flowing with water.
Tonight’s dinner was meant to be pasta with tomato and olives, but mysteriously the bag of pasta was never found. So instead it was oats with tomatoes and olives for dinner. Just as delicious, thanks to Zoë!
We saw this odd shape in the distance so thought we would investigate, definitely didn’t expect to see a yellow double decker bus out here!
We met up with Bernard and Anne at Eilandsvlei, and took shelter in a cow shed waiting for the rain to pass.
The start of the Old Postal Route.
Dropping back down into the Biedouw Valley.
We trailered the bikes up to Oasis backpackers, then headed north towards Wuppertal then along the Biedouw Valley and across the Doring river. From there we headed south to Elandsvlei to the start of The Old Postal Route, which took us back to the Biedouw valley for the return journey back to Oasis backpackers.
